Moroccan Inspired: Lightweight Outfit

Last year at this time, I was in Morocco and spent a few days in the Sahara Desert.  I saw this skirt and it made me think of the trip.  The culture in the Moroccan cities is for women to be completely covered, no arms, legs, or toes should be visible.  Although, I was aware of that I simply made the mistake of thinking "I'm a tourist" and went to the ATM from the pool area in a beach dress and sandals.  After receiving some looks from local men, I decided to stick to the custom and remained covered up.  This skirt would be the perfect skirt/ outfit to wear if I was to go back again.  It would also be a great spring outfit to wear to brunch or running errands.  I love the neutral "covered-up" head to toe look with cobalt blue accessories.

Stuffed Mexican Style Peppers

Red Peppers
Ingredients

I decided to make a Mexican spin on stuffed peppers.  First, I sliced the peppers in half and boiled them in water.

In a small saucepan, I cooked a cup of rice in 2 cups of water.  In a frying pan, brown organic ground turkey meat.  While cooking, add about 2 tbsp water and a packet of taco seasoning.  After the meat is cooked, mix in black beans and a can of diced tomatoes.

Pour into mixing bowl and stir together with the cooked rice.  Lay the boiled (soft) peppers in a pan and stuff them.
Top with cheddar or Mexican shredded cheese (above) and bake until cheese is melted (seen below).
The filling should stuff about 4 peppers (8 halves).  This is a tasty, healthy recipe that can also be made substituting quinoa or brown rice for white rice.

Joe Fresh Dress

Joe Fresh dress, J.Crew cardigan and belt,
Topshop sandals, Vintage earrings, Gucci sunnies

Have you been to the new Canadian retail store Joe Fresh?  They have 2 locations in NYC and many others.  I heard about it on the news a few months ago.  The staff was very friendly and I really liked how it was organized by color.  A salesperson quickly informed me that each piece you see comes in at least one other color.  As for quality, I'm not quite sure how it will hold up, but it feels decent.  The pricing of the store was very reasonable, I bought this dress for only thirty dollars.  I plan on going back again.

I styled this dress with an oversized cardigan and matching orange belt.  My favorite part of this dress is that it has tan and brown in the stripe.  I had fun mixing a black sweater with a tan sandal for a casual look.  I also can't wait to dress this up with a statement necklace and heels and down again a different way.

Vintage Tuesday-- Oversized Pearls

I have always been obsessed with pearls.  Although, I do not wear pearls as often as I used to I still cherish them.  The gold braided detail of these earrings and oversized pearl studs makes them simple, yet a statement of there own.  I love how they can be worn with just about any outfit.

It was great having Kevin home for the last time this weekend. I am so excited he is graduating in 3 weeks and will be coming home soon! We had a fun filled weekend enjoying the weather walking around hoboken and going to a beer garden. We tried to make the most of the weekend by spending time with friends and cooking healthy dishes. On Sunday, we avoided the rain with a wine and movie marathon. Once and a while those kind of days are the best. How was your weekend?!

Bright Blue

Madewell dress, Loft belt, Report booties, Tory Burch bag, ToyWatch,
Yurman and J Crew jewelry, Gucci Sunnies
First of all, I am so proud of myself for finally wearing these booties with a dress, especially sans tights. I love the bright blue against the neutral shades of camel. I wore this outfit last weekend to the Brooklyn Flea Market (yes I finally made it there).  This dress was perfect for a warm early spring day.  Hope you enjoy this outfit!

Luxe Look for Less: First Beauty Post

This luxe look for less post has a different spin than usual.  I tried Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips for the first time, which is essentially a cheaper alternative to a gel manicure.  The average cost of a gel manicure is about $30 compared to this product at $9 for 2 applications.  For any of you that don't know me, I am not a big fan of beauty products, but I thought this product was worth reviewing.

I used the color Wishful Pinking.  The box says it lasts up to ten days, no dry time, and to peel and apply.  It comes with a cuticle stick, mini file, buffer, 16 strips, and directions.  The directions seemed much easier to use than it was.

Pros                                                               Cons
- No drying time                                   - Difficult to apply (Hopefully gets easier with practice)
- Can remove with polish remover       - Began to peel after a few days
- Comes in many colors and patterns    - Did not last ten days (I kept it on for almost 5)
- Not as bad for nails as gel manicure

I would not recommend this product, unless you want to try a fun pattern.  I would have been much easier to just paint my nails this pink shade.  Since the box came with 2 applications, I will try it one more time and let you know if that goes any better.  I heard that a trick is to apply top coat after applying the stickers.  Do you have any tips for using this product?

Kate Middleton - Royal Wedding Anniversary

I can not believe it has almost been a year since the royal wedding!  Dutchess Kate Middleton is sophisticated and charming.  In the last year, she is frequently seen wearing trench coats, pinch waist dresses, and slim fitted clothing.  She subtly adds a touch of royalty to every outfit with a unique piece such as heirloom brooch.  After she wore this pair of coral denim (below) it is rumored that the sales of this color denim rose 88% in March.

Here is some fashion inspiration from Kate Middleton.

Weekend Snaps

The last week off of work (10 days!) has been so great.  I've caught up on odds and ends for my graduate program, got to spend time in Florida with my boyfriend and family, headed down to the beach, spent a day in NYC, and even got to the Brooklyn Flea with my good friend Macey.  We enjoyed the weekend by eating outside, shopping, and having a girls night out.

Back to work today, but at least the weather is gorgeous!  It really feels like spring/ summer.  While having lunch on Saturday I noticed so many people in shorts, sandals, and summer dresses!

Yellow and Tweed

BCBG blazer, Madewell top, Seven jeans, Report booties,
Tory Burch clutch, J Crew necklace, Juicy Couture watch

I love the unexpected blend of yellow silk against this multi-color tweed blazer.  This outfit was created using all pieces already in my closet.  Mixing and matching things I already own makes me appreciate the things in my closet even more.  I'm sure you have all heard the shopping tip, don't buy anything unless you can wear it three ways.  I think we should challenge that to four or five ways to be more savvy shoppers!

This or That Thursday

 Kate Spade Ad

Inspiration

I am obsessed with the new Kate Spade collection.  The orange, pink, black, and white color scheme is my favorite.  These ads are so fun, I wanted to share them and what girl isn't inspired by Audrey Hepburn?!

Easter Outfit

Dress: Liquidnation, Necklace: Anthropologie, Shoes: Michael Kors

This is what I wore to Easter Brunch on the beach in Florida.  I love the colors in the pattern of this dress and accented it with beachy accessories.  This beach necklace I also wore with my beach dress in the afternoon.  These flat-forms are low and comfortable and were also seen in my Getaway Polyvore.
